0.Your name, your nationality, your age, male or female.
Anders Bertilsson, Swedish, 44 years old, male
1.When did you start to play renju and how did you learn it? How many years have you played renju?
At the beginning of 1988 I read an article about a coming Swedish Championship in the magazine "Raka Spaaret", which was distributed to all Train travellers in Sweden. I decided to take part in that tournament, because at school I had been described as unbeatable at "noughts and crosses". I soon found out that the top players where so much better than us who just played for fun without any knowledge of openings etc. I became fashinated that this simple game was so profound, and was cought by it for the rest of my life I believe.
2.Do you play in a club? In which clubs have you played?
I play in Hoegsjoe Luffarschackklubb. This club was formed in 1988, and before that I played a short time for KFUM Oerebro.
3.Which are your best results in national and international tournaments (Usual tournaments and e-mail tournaments). Which is your international rating for the moment?
I have won the Swedish Championship in Gomoku, but in renju I have never been better than 4th.
4.Which is the best player you have met?
Ando Meritee. He plays in "another dimension" than I do.
5.Can you explain why you enjoy renju?
I have always found joy and pleasure in mathematics and logical challenges. Renju combine this with the opportunity to travel to different places and to meet other players from all over the world.
6.Which is your plans for the future as a player?
At the moment I put in more effort as a trainer than as a player. Thus my main plan for the future is to teach the young players in our club. The next mayor event is the Youth World Championship which will be played in Sweden this summer. The plan is to send not only our top players, but also some new and very young players to that tournament.
7. If you are one of the leaders in your club, please, tell something about your current club. How many players, when do you train? and so on.
There are 96 members in our club, mainly children. We have a club house which is decorated by posters etc from tournaments we have played. In total we have visited 15 countries because of renju. I am the head trainer of our club and is in charge of teaching the strongest young players. Also I am one of two trainers teaching beginners. Children from our club has been successful and won Swedish School Championships. Also Hannes Hermansson has one gold and one bronzemedal and Linus Hermansson a bronzemedal from World Youth Championships.
Beginners train only on Wednesdays, others different days.
