Renju is the professional variant of Go-Moku and uses more sophisticated rules. In renju the black player (the beginner of a game) is not allowed to make double-threes, double-fours or more than five in a row. Renju also uses sophisticated opening rules. This homepage is primarily for renju but it also covers other five-in-a-row games, such as, free-played Go-Moku, Five-In-A-Row and Pente. There are 26 opening patterns of renju. From the Renju Opening Page you can find them all. For the most opening patterns you are also able to see the best and sometimes also some bad alternatives for the 5th move in the most usual variations.
On the problems page you will find 20 renjuproblems with answers. and if you solve our 4 test renju problems on the problems page you will be awarded a kyu-degree.

Do you want to have the free version of Oleg Stepanov´s program in which you can study and review and replay more than 1000 games, among them several games from the last three World Championship tournaments. After installing the program press F1, F8, F3 and browse with the arrow keys between the games. Choose: r2dafree.zip(112 Kb). The full version of this program includes more than 10 000 games played by the best players of the world. You can read about other available analytical programs at the rules and the history page .
There are several five in a row programs at different FTP archives around the World; for example, some easier Windows Go Moku-programs as gomoku.zip (52 Kb) or gomoku2.zip(372 Kb) or DOS-program pente.zip (20 Kb).

4 future international tournaments in Renju:
You are able to find information about this server on the URL-address: http://140.188.198.26:8080/~pbmserv. It is possible to play renju, free gomoku or pente with other players in the world using this server. First you have to signup to the server. Then you are able to send a message to all other players that have signed up asking for someone to play with.
Possibly you are more theoretically interested in renju. If so, check the proof that the beginner is always able to win when playing free GoMoku. It is a postscript file and maybe you have to get for example the program Ghostview to be able to see it.
We are acquanted with many DOS and Windows programs, but there are also other programs available at other FTP archives around the world (If you know about a good program and its location, let us know.). You can find them by using an Archie Server. Just write: renju, gomoku orpente and press "Do It!") for example MS160 Archie Server Gateway in Norway. You can also find programs or other information about the games by using some search machine for example, Lycos.
If you are relatively new to the Internet and do not have the programs necessary to unzip the above mentioned files download Pkunzip or WinZip from an FTP site, or from your Internet provider or from the Archie Server mentioned above.
Renju does not have its own newsgroup, but renju and other five-in-a-row games are discussed in the newsgroup rec.games.abstract. If you wish to start a Renju Newsgroup, please let us know.
